Dr. Richard Rauck

Dr. Rauck understood that the body, mind, and spirit are intertwined. As a lifelong cycling enthusiast, Dr Rauck embraced the joy of motion, the freedom of the open road, and the discipline of pushing through discomfort toward greater strength. He founded Carolinas Pain Institute, The Center for Clinical Research, Winston-Salem Cycling Classic and the beloved Gears & Guitars event, blending his love for cycling with music and community to create something enduring and life-affirming. In the saddle, just as in medicine, Dr. Rauck showed us how to move forward with purpose, resilience, and a spirit of camaraderie.

To those of us who have the privilege of continuing this noble work—Dr. Rauck leaves behind a beautiful and urgent cause: to excel in clinical care and research with the same unwavering commitment, creativity, and humanity he demonstrated every day. Let his legacy inspire us to innovate boldly, to listen deeply, to bridge the gaps between science and compassion, and to build a future where pain no longer defines a life.

Dr. Rauck lived fully—sailing, nurturing family land in the North Carolina mountains, cycling fast with friends, and always giving back. He reminded us that excellence in medicine is not just technical mastery; it is a calling rooted in love for humanity.

As we carry forward his torch, may we ride with the same wind at our backs: determined, joyful, and ever-focused on restoring hope.

Thank you, Dr. Rauck for being a fearless leader in our industry. Your life was a gift to us all. May we honor it by striving higher, caring deeper, and never losing sight of the human spirit that beats at the heart of our profession.

Rest in peace, dear friend. Your wheels keep turning in all of us.
